CARE MODEL
Minimally-Invasive
Maxillary Expansion (MSE)
Practicing out of The Breathe Institute in Los Angeles, CA, Dr. Coppelson is a global leader in minimally-invasive techniques for maxillary expansion.
He regularly lectures and performs research on the most cutting-edge and minimally-invasive techniques in maxillary expansion.
Our goal is to provide effective and safe surgical adjuncts to improve your nasal breathing and expand your tongue space.
Corrective Jaw Surgery (MMA)
Dr. Coppelson brings you a comprehensive dental education, medical education, 6 years of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery training, and a fellowship in Advanced Maxillofacial Surgery to every case, offering the highest quality of care in corrective jaw surgery with a discerning focus in esthetics, facial balance, occlusion, and most importantly your airway.
We only use the most state-of-the-art tools and custom titanium hardware- ensuring optimal results with a more comfortable post-operative healing period.
Dental Implants
Dental Implants are used to replace missing teeth. They're a long-term solution that is imbedded in your jawbone, just like your natural teeth.
Plus, unlike fixed bridges or removable dentures, dental implants will not affect neighboring healthy teeth or lead to bone loss in the jaw.
If properly cared for, dental implants can last a lifetime. Dental implants are typically made of titanium, however, based on your case and preference, Dr. Coppelson is proud to offer metal-free implants in his practice.
Anesthesia
Dr. Coppelson is highly trained and certified by the State of California to administer all forms of anesthesia.
Pain and anxiety control, using various techniques of regional (local) anesthesia, all forms of sedation, and general anesthesia.
For most patients, these forms of anesthesia can safely be performed for in-office surgical procedures.
Dental Extraction
In certain cases, wisdom teeth- also known as third molars- should be removed.
These cases, along with other oral surgery procedures, can be performed under a variety of anesthesia techniques. Dr. Coppelson is extensively trained to safely provide local anesthesia, all forms of sedation and general anesthesia.
Temporomandibular
Joint Disorder (TMJ)
Once TMJ disorders are correctly diagnosed, treatment may range from conservative dental and medical care to complex surgery.
Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may include botox injections, short-term drugs for pain and muscle relaxation, bite or splint therapy, and even stress management counseling.
Surgery can involve either arthroscopy or repair of damaged tissue by a direct surgical approach.
Bone Grafts + Sinus Lifts
Once TMJ disorders are correctly diagnosed, treatment may range from conservative dental and medical care to complex surgery.
Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may include botox injections, short-term drugs for pain and muscle relaxation, bite or splint therapy, and even stress management counseling.
Surgery can involve either arthroscopy or repair of damaged tissue by a direct surgical approach.
Expose + Bond
Orthodontic treatment typically involves placement of brackets on to teeth and moving them into alignment.
Sometimes a tooth may be stuck or buried underneath the gums and require surgery to place a bracket on the tooth to pull it into place over time.
This procedure is called an expose and bond because the tooth is first exposed by an incision through the gums, and then a bracket is bonded or glued on to the tooth.

WHAT ARE OMDs?
Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) are "Patterns involving oral and orofacial musculature that interfere with normal growth, development, or function of orofacial structures. OMDs can be found in children, adolescents, and adults.
OMDs can co-occur with a variety of speech and swallowing disorders.
OMD may reflect the interplay of learned behaviors, physical/structural variables, genetic and environmental factors."
(Maspero, Prevedello, Giannini,
Galbiati, & Farronato, 2014) www.asha.org
CHILDREN & ADULTS WITH OROFACIAL MYOFUNCTIONAL DISORDERS (OMDs) MAY STRUGGLE WITH:
- Mouth Breathing
- Snoring & Sleep Apnea
- Malocclusion
- Speech Impediments
- Tongue Thrust
- Picky / Messy Eating
- Improper Swallow
- Poor Posture
- Oral Habits (digit sucking, pacifier use after certain age, etc.)
- Drooling
- Low Tongue Posture

WHAT CAUSES OMDs?
Nasal Airway Interference - enlarged tonsils, adenoids, hypertrophied turbinates, and/or allergies. Anything that obstructs the nasal passages that will lead to mouth breathing.
Genetic Defects - like tongue ties, cleft palate, craniofacial abnormalities, and syndromes.
Oral Habits - digit sucker, extended pacifier and bottle use.
Diet - some research suggests that refined sugars and high processed foods have caused underdevelopment craniosacral structures
